I meet my clients at a place of their choice (their home, a park, etc.) and I give a 30 minute consult before the first session to give the client an idea of what we can accomplish with training. During the consult, I will observe the dog and determine what would be the best course of action, since every dog is different and will require unique methods in every case. If the client is satisfied that I will be able to help them and their dog with my training, then we start the first session. I want to make sure that my clients are aware of what is possible with training. Nothing is impossible, but if a client wants their dog to do something specific, such as get a beverage out of the refrigerator and bring it to them, it would take an extensive amount of training to achieve that. It would be unlikely that I could achieve this level of training in four sessions or less, so the consult allows me to give the owner an idea of what they can expect. If the client isn't satisfied that I can help give them what they want from the training, then they have the option to decline training and the consultation is free.
